To inspire fresh and deep conversations about Scripture, ACU Press has launched this commentary series, which is designed to help readers become more reflective about themselves, their community, their world, and the church. Those who are actively communicating the truth of biblical texts, especially in congregational settings (small groups, preaching, etc.) will find this series engaging.

Each commentary section contains theological reflections to equip the reader to appreicate the broad range of concerns addressed in the text.

The commentary also includes deeply personal reflections, noting how social location shapes how they read Scripture. To offer the reader an even broader perspective, the series has invited other commentators to offer supplementary guest perspectives. For the gospel of John, Dr. Melvin Otey, an African American professor of Law at Faulkner University offers key, practical insights alongside Dr. Carey’s commentary.

The intent of these sections to model for readers what a fuller Scriptural imagination and engagement with the Bible can look like.

Holly J. Carey is a professor of Biblical Studies and department chair of Biblical Studies at Point University (West Point, GA). A graduate of Point and of Asbury Theological Seminary, she earned her PhD in New Testament and Christian Origins at the University of Edinburgh.

William R. Baker is the editor of the Stone-Campbell Journal and it the president of Stone-Campbell International.
