by Dyron B. Daughrity
Martin Luther is a fresh retelling of one the most significant figures of the last millennium. Not written primarily for theologians, but rather for a general audience, Martin Luther traces Luther’s early development, his conflicts with civic and religious authorities, his leadership of reform in Germany, and the subsequent impact of Luther’s writings and beliefs as they stretched around the world.

''Nobody disputes the importance of Martin Luther in world history, or in the development of Christianity. It's a pleasure then to have such an accessible guide to the man and his thought, with a judicious assessment of his impact. Dyron Daughrity deserves all praise for this readable, and reader-friendly, account.''
—Philip Jenkins, Distinguished Professor of History, Institute for Studies of Religion, Baylor University
''I wish this book had been available when I was a student! Martin Luther: A Biography for the People brings alive the Reformer's life and work, presenting it in an exciting yet scholarly way. While demonstrating Luther's great contribution to the Protestant Reformation, the author is not afraid to acknowledge his darker side, discussing his hostility towards Jews and Muslims.''
—George D. Chryssides, York St John University, UK
''Counting myself among the 'common people' for whom this book is written, I am deeply grateful to Daughrity for this splendid, highly readable biography of Martin Luther. There is so much to learn from and to be spiritually edified by it.''
—Peter C. Phan, Ellacuria Chair of Catholic Social Thought, Georgetown University
''It is a massive challenge to produce a comprehensive 'biography for the people' on the complex personality of Martin Luther. Daughrity, however, is well up to the task. His extensive reading, but more so the passion for the man and the subject shine through in every line.''
—Herbert Quelle, Consul General Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany
''Daughrity offers a riveting portrait of the reformer as pastor, theologian, and Biblical translator, whose passion for communicating the gospel of Christ brought him into contact with men and women from all walks of life. Deeply researched and beautifully written, this biography for the people is a story about the people who were central to Luther's life and work.''
