"As sports boomed into a multibillion-dollar industry, newspapers had to step up and expand their coverage to meet the insatiable appetite of their readers. No one did that better than The Dallas Morning News, whose staff of talented reporters and editors helped set the bar for national sports coverage."

Pete Alfano, former sportswriter for The New York Times and Fort Worth Star-Telegram

“I’m not sure which I liked better - the wonderful journalism or the Q&As with the writers that followed. Either way, I wish I’d had a book like this as reference and inspiration when I was a journalism student. I can’t wait to use it in my sports writing classes.”

Melissa Isaacson, journalist, author, and lecturer at Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications, Northwestern University

“SportsDay set the bar that other papers struggled to reach. As Sports Illustrated once noted, it was the ‘Encyclopedia Britannica’ of sports sections, only with more soul. These stories illustrate exactly what that means, and they remain a wonderful teaching tool for the next generation of journalists.”

Barry Horn, freelance journalist and former SportsDay writer

“As a sports editor and then managing editor for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, I came to know the sports reporters for The Dallas Morning News both personally and through their writing. I have great respect for the work they did and the commitment The Dallas Morning News had to sports. It pushed all of us to be better in what was perhaps the most competitive market in the country.”

Ellen Alfano, former vice president, Fort Worth Star-Telegram

"Since I moved back to Texas, I do the same this every day. I get up, go downstairs, start my coffee, and read The Dallas Morning News, just like I did when I was coaching the Cowboys....I love the sports section. Once you read these stories, I think you'll see why."

Gene Stallings, award-winning head coach (Texas A&M and Alabama)
