Memorable Moments of Motherhood

The following blog post is from author Nancy B. Kennedy who this week released her latest book in the Miracles & Moments of Grace series: Miracles & Moments of Grace: Inspiring Stories from Moms. You can read more about the book and Nancy at her personal blog: www.nancybkennedy.com and on the book’s Facebook page. If you’re a blogger, you can also request a free copy of the book in exchange for a review.

Does a loving look from your child reduce you to a mound of mush? When you lose sight of your toddler for a second, does it seem like an eternity? Do you cart around a purse the size of an SUV that could equip the entire 101st Airborne?

You’re not alone, my friend. And I wrote my latest book just for you.

In Miracles & Moments of Grace: Inspiring Stories from Moms, I talk with fifty women who share their most memorable moments of motherhood. And just as a mom’s daily life changes from one second to the next, their stories run the gamut from touching and tender to hilarious and even, for some valiant moms, heartbreaking.

In this book, you’ll meet moms—moms just like you!—who:

  • Struggle to create a credible preschool project
  • Fervently believe that ice cream solves every problem
  • Will enter their teen’s bedroom only in a hazmat suit
  • Get teary eyed when their itty bitty baby goes off to college
  • Pray daily for the help of an angel (preferably a multitasking one)

In fact, while I was asking everyone else about their memorable moments, I couldn’t help but turn the question in on myself: What has been my most memorable moment as a mother? That was the beauty of writing a book of stories from moms… I am one! The first two books in the Miracles & Moments of Grace series –stories from military chaplains and stories from doctors—were fascinating to write because of their “otherness.” I’d never been in combat; I’d never been in an operating room. But, motherhood? I wear the yoga pants!

In this book, I share my absolute favorite moment with my son. It involves a day at Legoland and a blocky blue car. If you knew me, you’d know that I believe amusement parks should be banished to Dante’s ninth level of hell. But it was there in the middle of a swirling mass of frenzied humanity that I shared a quiet moment of pure delight with my son.

The fifty moms in my book are all in different stages of parenting—some are just beginning the journey while others are looking back on their childrearing years. But these moms all have one thing in common: They adore their children, they’re in awe of them at times, and they wouldn’t trade a single moment of their lives.

So I ask you: If you’re a mom, what has been your most memorable moment? Or, if you could share one thing about your own mother, what would it be?
